Leesburg VA

Welcome to Leesburg!

Leesburg – is a historic town and the county seat of Loudoun County. It is nestled along the base of Catoctin Mountain, adjacent to the Potomac River. About 36 miles from Washington, DC, Leesburg is also the northwestern terminus of the Dulles Greenway, where currently the Silver Line Metro expansion is underway.  Leesburg, like the rest of Loudoun, has undergone considerable growth and development over the last 30 years, transforming this small, rural, piedmont town into a suburban bedroom community for DC commuters.

Established in 1758, Leesburg was where Dolly Madison escaped to during the War of 1812, saving important government documents and portraits from destruction by the British.  During the Civil War, Leesburg was the site of the Battle of Ball's Bluff, a resounding Confederate victory. The battlefield is marked by one of America's smallest national cemeteries. The town's Historic District was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970 and cited as one of the best preserved and most picturesque downtowns in Virginia.

Today, “historically hip” Leesburg is a happening place with a bevy of brand new restaurants, brew pubs, art galleries and antique shops, all wrapped up in history and charm galore. Especially popular are the evening events known as “First Fridays,” where on the first Friday of each month (except January) one can stroll around historic downtown Leesburg to enjoy numerous live music performances, art exhibits, wine tastings and more. The music scene is also alive and well with summer’s Acoustic on the Green series and name acts weekly at the renovated Tally Ho Theatre.

Leesburg is a happy blend of old and new, mixed with a lot of civic pride. The Fourth of July Celebration at Ida Lee Park is among the area’s largest. Their Halloween Parade is said to be one of the longest-running Halloween parades in the country and includes high school bands, and floats made by local businesses, Scout troops and families.  At Christmas time, the Leesburg Volunteer Fire Department decks out one of their shiny red trucks with twinkling lights and with Santa atop, sirens blaring, traverses the town wishing everyone a Merry Christmas.

A wide variety of housing is available in Leesburg, from vintage homes and estates to modern new elevator town homes and single-family neighborhoods. Close to everything, yet minutes to DC’s wine country, Leesburg’s area attractions include the Leesburg Corner Premium Outlets mall, Red Rock Wilderness Overlook, and the historic White's Ferry.  http://www.leesburgva.gov/
